During the web site development you might want to put the Joomla 2.5 web site offline for public. This can be achieved from the Joomla 2.5 admin area -> Site ->Global Configuration -> Site Settings. Pick the Yes value for the Site Offline radio button and save the change.
In this way you will be able to work on the web site after you enter your admin login details. It will not be visible for the users who do not have the corresponding access privileges.
