Wildcard subdomains are useful when you wish to redirect all visitors to your main website regardless of what subdomain they access your website through.
In other words, with a wildcard subdomain it will not matter whether someone accesses your site through ww.yourdomain.com or wwwwww.yourdomain.com, they will still be taken to your home page.
To create a WildCard subdomain:
- Log in cPanel
- Go to Subdomains
- Type in * in the “subdomain” field
- Choose yourdomain.com from the drop-down list
- Make sure to choose the same Document Root for the WildCard subdomain as the one for yourdomain.com
The wildcard subdomain will be *.yourdomain.com and will have the same Directory Root (if not defined otherwise) as yourdomain.com
